Manuscript Assessment

Manuscript Assessments are thorough, multipage reports discussing an overview of your manuscript.

Assessments Include:

Overall organization
General writing tone/style/flow
Overall timeline
Major plot points
Setting
Development of major characters

Deliverables for a Manuscript Assessment:

A multipage editorial report discussing the items above and offering specific suggestions for improvement.

Developmental Edit

Developmental Edits are the most detailed edits available and involve a deep look at the manuscript. It frequently includes suggestions on rearranging, adding, or cutting portions of text, and will recommend solutions for problematic areas, such as identifying any "holes" in the manuscript.

Developmental Edit Includes:

Organization/framework
Writing tone/voice
Pacing/flow
Consistency
Themes
Plot, including plot "holes"
Timeline
Setting/world building
Major and minor character development
Word count

Deliverables for a Developmental Edit:

An Editorial Letter discussing overall impressions of your manuscript, including strengths and weaknesses.
A marked-up manuscript (using Track Changes so you can accept/reject any editorial recommendations).

Line Editing

Line Edits offer revision on the page, scene, paragraph, and line levels.

Line Edit Includes:

Paragraph/sentence structure
Word choices
Language techniques
Repetitive phrasing or structure
Writing tone/voice
Pacing/flow
Clarity
Consistency

Deliverables for a Line Edit:

An Editorial Letter discussing overall impressions of your manuscript, including strengths and weaknesses.

Copy Editing

Copy edits offer revisions on the sentence and word levels.

Grammar
Punctuation
Spelling

An Editorial Letter discussing overall impressions of your manuscript, including strengths and weaknesses.
A marked-up manuscript (using Track Changes so you can accept/reject any editorial recommendations).
A Style Sheet & Terms List - a document that identifies preferences for how words, numbers, punctuation, and grammar are used.

Proofreading

Proofreading focuses on catching any typographical, formatting, or design errors in a document that has been typeset and is in its final PDF format. This is the final editorial check to ensure the manuscript is free of error prior to being printed.
